Five displaced after Wilkes-Barre house fire

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Crews in Luzerne County were called to a house fire in Wilkes-Barre Saturday night.

According to Luzerne County Communications Center, crews were called to the unit block of Barney Street for a reported second-alarm structure fire.

Wilkes Barre City Fire Department Deputy Chief Alan Klapat says the fire started on the second floor near the back of the house.

Klapat states that five people were in the house at the time of the fire , but all made it out on their own.

One woman was treated at the scene, but is expected to be ok and she will be staying with her daughter.

Inn ruled a total loss after a fire in Monroe County

The Red Cross will be helping the other four people in the house find temporary housing accommodations.

Klapat states that the house did suffer moderate fire damage, but was mostly contained to a second-floor bedroom

Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department is heading the scene, and the fire is under investigation.
