SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A big financial boost in the fight against food insecurity in Lackawanna County.
The Lackawanna Food Policy Council Fund received $20,000 on Friday.
The money is from the Scranton Area Community Foundation and the city of Scranton.
The funds will help ensure people in Lackawanna County have access to healthy and nutritious foods.

The food policy council also noted the group will work closely with CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank and Friends of the Poor.
"The food policy council is really bringing together all of the stakeholders in the food system, in the charitable food network, in the agriculture community in the food retail community and bringing all of those pieces together in one room so that we can solve a lot of these issues together," Director of Nutrition Programs and Resource Development and CEO RND Gretchen Hunt said.
The Lackawanna County Food Policy Council oversees a number of programs in the county to promote healthy eating.
