SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Santa Claus is making several local stops before his big night worldwide on Christmas Eve.
On Saturday, Santa spread joy to families with the help of the Scranton Police Department for an event called Sidewalk Santa.
The jolly old elf made 11 stops throughout the city, including Laurel Woods Apartments in the Minooka section.

He greeted families, handed out goodie bags, and posed for pictures along with Scranton's finest.
Police have held this holiday season event for five years now.
"That's the idea of this event is bringing Santa to them, bringing the joy to them. Maybe some people who have transportation issues, um, just some hurdles to get to these community events so we figure we'll just bring it to them," said Scranton Police Department Training Sergeant Chris Hallock.
The event doubles as a community policing effort that shares the holiday spirit.
