Man allegedly barricades apartment to avoid eviction

WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing charges after police say he barricaded himself inside his apartment to avoid an eviction.

According to the Williamsport Bureau of Police, on December 30 around 8:00 a.m., a Pennsylvania Constable tried to serve 64-year-old Kenneth Austin with court-ordered eviction documents from his apartment building.

When the constable spoke with Austin he pointed a handgun at the constable before he went back inside the apartment and barricaded the door, police stated.

Multiple officers responded to the scene and during the incident nearby residents were evacuated to a safe location.

Investigators say they were able to talk with Austin and gain entry to the apartment where he was disarmed and taken into custody. 

Officers noted that Austin was known to have a history of threatening behavior.

Austin faces aggravated assault, terrorist threats, and other related offenses.
