Taylor council votes on solar farm regulations

TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The future of solar farms in one Northeastern Pennsylvania Borough now looks a little clearer.

The Taylor Borough Council unanimously approved a vote to put into place regulations on how future solar farms may operate and develop land.

One solar farm is already in the works and the meeting gave residents a chance to address their concerns.

The ruling is important because, before Wednesday, the borough did not have any official zoning laws in place regarding solar farms.

Currently, one is planned for a site across from McDade Park located off of Ransom Road.

"This passage tonight of these regulations apply to solar farms going forward. We were going to be in a gray area, that the regulations that are currently in place for zoning and planning, would apply to any projects in the borough. However, the one specific now to the solar farms, some of these regulations may not apply to the current approved one for fact that it was approved by the county judge," said Taylor Borough Council President Kennith Mickavicz.

Wednesday's ruling only applies to any solar farms that will be developed in the future.

It does not apply to any that are already in the planning stages.
