PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Pittston City Police Department is issuing a reminder to residents after an uptick in thefts of certain vehicles.
Police say they have seen an increase in thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles in the Greater Pittston and Wyoming areas.
Police say this is part of a nationwide trend that lets thieves start certain vehicles without having a key.
"Anyone who owns a Kia or Hyundai is encouraged to contact their dealer to inquire about security software upgrades that recently became available," police noted.
They also encourage any residents to call 911 if they notice any suspicious activity, including hearing breaking glass, especially in the overnight hours.
