(WBRE/WYOU) — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple winter storm warnings, advisories, and even extreme cold watches for Sunday Morning.
The NWS has issued the winter storm warning for the following counties starting Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. and ending Monday at 1:00 a.m.:
Lackawanna
Luzerne
Northern and Southern Wayne
Pike
Wyoming
Susquehanna
Monroe
Carbon
There were also winter storm warnings issued for Schuylkill and Columbia Counties to last from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.
In addition to the warnings, the NWS also says a winter weather advisory is in effect from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday for the following counties:
Union
Sullivan
Southern Lycoming
Southern Clinton
Snyder
Northumberland
Montour
Total snow accumulations are between six and eight inches in the listed areas with heavy snow expected at times.
Travel could be difficult as PennDOT has already planned restrictions starting Sunday morning.
New snow totals for Sunday’s storm
Also on Saturday, authorities say an extreme cold watch is in effect for the following counties from late Sunday night into Wednesday morning:
Sullivan
Northern Lycoming
Northern Clinton
The NWS warns that the extreme cold watch is in effect because of anticipated cold wind chills that could reach as low as -20° to -25°.
Those severe temperatures could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as half an hour, officials explained.
If you must travel, officials say to always have an extra flashlight, food, and water in case of emergency.
