Instacart driver shot while dropping off groceries

NEWTON TWP., LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A homeowner is facing charges after police say he shot an Instacart driver who was delivering his groceries.

According to Chief Paul Wolfe from the South Abington Police Department, officers received a call around 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a man shot in the leg at Misty Lane in Newton Township.

Through further investigation, police said they learned that a woman ordered groceries via Instacart, but her husband, 43-year-old Nicholas Sabo was not aware.

Sabo's wife told him that there was a guy outside on their property, possibly breaking into their trailer not realizing that it was the Instacart driver, Chief Wolfe stated.

Detectives said Sabo went outside with a gun and fired one shot at the unarmed driver, hitting him in the leg. Wolfe said the bullet traveled through the man's leg and struck him in the other leg.

The victim got to his vehicle, drove down the street, and called 911. Chief Wolfe noted the Instacart driver's wife and child were in the vehicle at the time he was shot.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery.

Sabo is currently being charged with recklessly endangering another person. Chief Wolfe says additional charges may be filed at a later date.
