Hot yoga studio sees uptick during cold

EDWARDSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — While many are cranking up the heat in their homes with these frigid temps one business in Luzerne County always has the thermostat at a tropical 95°.

The lights are always on at Melt Hot Yoga in Edwardsville before the sun comes up.

But this time of year people like Amber Tosh and Scarlett Evans are bundled up for Tuesday’s chilling temps - before breaking a sweat.

“I do not like the cold, not a fan of the cold,” says Tosh.

“Hot yoga in general, I just love coming in here. Feeling the heat, it’s so nice and it’s so relaxing but here at Melt the people are just one of a kind. You come in here, everybody’s smiling, waving at you,” says Evans.

Seeking the heat but also a killer workout. The studio offers different styles of hot yoga, such as the original meditative style and inferno hot pilates.

Melt studio starts at about 95° but then boils all the way up by the end of class to around 105°.

Owner Maggie Kovalski says they see a spike in membership once mother nature’s temperatures drop around November and December. She claims the class provides endless benefits like sweating out toxins.

“There’s a lot of people that come in with different chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases that are hoping that the heat will help them in their journey to just kind of progressing toward more nutritious lifestyles overall.”

Bodies steaming after a morning’s workout is a normal sight for the studio as its members go back outside to brave the elements.
