36th annual Early Bird Sports Expo to kick off

BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The great outdoors are coming indoors bringing together thousands in Columbia County.

The early bird gets the worm and for archers like John Frey at the early bird sports expo at the Bloomsburg fairgrounds, they always hit their mark.

“They shoot what we call a three-spot target and a single-spot target.”

Whether you’re an expert or have no clue what you’re doing

“Our club has been in existence since 1952.” . . . “Some of us have been shooting for 25, 30 years.”

It may be a competition on the paper shoots or a 3d course but they’re all here for the love of the game.

Archery is just one element of the expo that runs through Sunday as it has everything outdoor-related.

With around 125 vendors business owners like Cody Campion of Keystone Timber & Forestry LLC get to showcase their companies but also educate guests on topics like logging.

“Logging gets a bad rep sometimes. If you do it right, sustainably, you can do it for the future, you manage your woods, it helps the wildlife, it helps with recreation, and it helps create infrastructure in your woods.”

And for its 36th year, it’s the camaraderie of those coming together to celebrate the great outdoors.

“A lot of local people from central PA, some outside but it doesn’t matter if they’re from a different state. They just come together like they’re long lost family,” says Jarrett Swartz.

The early bird sports expo opens at 3 pm today and runs through Sunday. Anyone interested in participating in the archery events can still register.
