Fire heavily damages house in Northumberland County

COAL TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Crews were on scene battling a structure fire Thursday evening just outside of Shamokin.

According to Michael Timcia, Deputy Chief of Coal Township Fire Department, crews were called to the unit block of North Fir Street for a reported 2nd alarm structure fire just after 6:00 p.m.

Deputy Chief Timcia said the fire started on the second floor above the garage, where the family of five lived.

Fire destroys business in Columbia County

Officials say the family was home during the fire, but everyone got out safely.

Multiple departments were on scene assisting with battling the blaze that was contained to just the second floor.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation.
