SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — More than 100 hearty participants braved the cold and some chilly water on Saturday at Montage Mountain in Scranton for the Northeast Polar Plunge.
The general public took part in the fundraising plunge one day after some local students and teachers got to do it exclusively.
The money raised benefits Special Olympics Pennsylvania.

"It's so fun. Everyone's happy. It's just a blast. It's a big party. We're all doing something crazy together and, it's fun!" said Montoursville resident Joy Snyder.
"My cousin has Asperger's (Syndrome) his entire life and, you know, coming out to support these causes like this, it really helps people like him, and people with special needs, to really thrive and live a full life," said Charles Demichele from Philadelphia.
Saturday's Polar Plunge easily raised tens of thousands of dollars in the Electric City.
