Giving lugeing a go in annual Winterfest

LOWER TOWAMENSING TOWNSHIP, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some folks are making the most of the winter weather by trying something new.

Blue Mountain Resort near Palmerton was the place to be on Sunday for the annual Winterfest.

The crowd had the chance to try their hand at lugeing, as well as skiing and snowboarding.

They also got to meet members of the US Olympic Luge Team.

Guests who gave lugeing a go learned quickly that it is more challenging than it looks.

"Coming to Winterfest is a huge opportunity for USA Luge. Because it's obviously a great mountain with great facilities for making snow. We can rely on it every year, and we also find great people, have great crowds. It's just wonderful," said USA Luge Director of Marketing and Sponsorship Gordy Sheer.

"Well, the fellas wanted to get a good session in today, so we basically bought tickets Thursday night and said let's go rip the mountain a little bit. And then we saw the luge and we said we have to do it," said Steven Pini-Duin, Snowboarder and Event Participant from Secaucus, New Jersey.

The USA Luge Team comes to Winterfest every year with the opportunity for guests to see if they have what it takes to be a luger.
