School in session for HASD teachers for training, professional development

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — School was not in session for the Hazleton Area School District students on Monday. Instead, it was time for staff to take classes.

The assistant to the superintendent for student services says the school district meets on certain Mondays during February, March, and January: A time for teachers to get professional development.

Snow showers expected for Tuesday morning

The classes focus on concepts and curricular factors that they could not get into during a regular school year because there is not always enough time.

"In most cases, it's our teachers teaching our teachers. A lot of our teachers are trained in specific topics, so they are doing the trainings, but we've also partnered with the intermediate unit, the Luzerne Intermediate Unit, and they are partnering with us for a lot of our trainings as well," said Assistant to the Superintendent for Student Services Robert Mehalick.

The service is for all staff including educators, office assistants, and the manager departments.
