SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County Prison struck a deal with the federal government to house federal inmates at a certain rate per day, per prisoner.
The new agreement with the marshals' service was negotiated by the Summerhill Law Firm of Washington DC.
The agreement caps the number of federal detainees in the prison at 230 on any given day.
How federal agengies funding pause could impact local area
The per diem rate will rise from $102 per detainee to $119 per detainee beginning February 1.
The prison administration expects the increase to be between $800,000 and $900,000 for the year.
The money will be deposited in the county general fund.
