Commonwealth University to vote on president's future

(WBRE/WYOU) — Commonwealth University's faculty and coaches are set to take a no-confidence vote on the University's president on February 11 and 12.

The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Facilities (APSCUF) President Dr. Kenneth M. Mash issued a statement in November of 2024 calling for President Bashar Hanna's presidency to end.

"I cannot find anyone who can explain to me how it makes sense that someone who has been liable for wrongful termination of a mandated reporter could remain the university’s final arbiter in sexual harassment cases and other disciplinary cases. How does anyone expect students, faculty, and staff to feel comfortable at that university? It is farcical," APSCUF President Mash said back in November of 2024.

Faculty members and coaches at the Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield campuses of Commonwealth University will take the anonymous vote on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 11 and 12.

The results of the vote will be announced later that week.

Commonwealth University responded "While the university is disappointed this action may distract from the work at hand, President Hanna and his leadership team remain laser-focused on our students and their futures. Both Commonwealth University and higher education nationwide face a number of challenges that will require collaboration. President Hanna will continue to engage with CU’s dedicated students, faculty, and staff as Commonwealth University works toward achieving financial sustainability and providing one of the most affordable higher education options in Pennsylvania."
