Six people on-board as plane crashes in northeast Philadelphia

A large explosion erupts in a section of northeast Philadelphia Friday night.

The explosion taking place near the Roosevelt Mall as people panic and yell and debris flies through the air.

Moments later, a densely populated Philly neighborhood with homes and vehicles slammed by the impact engulfed in flames.

"We are urging you to please stay away from the scene. If you see debris call 911. Don't touch anything," voiced Mayor Cherelle Parker (D), Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker warning people to stay away as federal and state partners, including Governor Josh Shapiro (D), head to the scene pledging their full support.

"Whatever is needed for this community gets to this community," voiced Governor Shapiro.

The jet departed at around just after 6:00 p.m. reaching a maximum altitude of nearly 1,700 feet off the ground right before crashing.

Four crew members and two passengers including a pediatric patient were on board.

Part of this statement from Jet Rescue Air Ambulance states: "Our immediate concern is for the patient's family, our personnel, their families and other victims that may have been hurt on the ground."

"Now we are just asking for prayers for anyone that may have been affected," voiced Mayor Parker.

Philadelphia's mayor says they don't know how many fatalities and injuries there are, and it will be some time before we have names.

The mayor adds a shelter has been set up for people who can't go home.
