Helping patients, searching for cure through 'Carve 4 Cancer'

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The weekend weather is cooperating for some winter fun at local ski resorts, including one hosting a fundraiser to help patients battling blood cancer.

Skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes on Saturday at Montage Mountain for the 13th Annual Carve 4 Cancer event.

Besides shredding and skiing, the crowd enjoyed much more, including music, food, beverages, and raffles.

Carve 4 Cancer began more than a decade ago thanks to a blood cancer patient and Wilkes-Barre native Brent Evans. He lost his battle with the disease in 2017.

The organizations Carve 4 Cancer and the Live Like Brent Foundation continue efforts in his memory.

"To get the support from the folks in northeast Pennsylvania makes you really proud to be from here and I think it's just a testament to the community," said Live Like Brent Foundation President Josh Frank.

"It's for a good cause. Make some money for them. Hang out. A good time. Tons of good people," said Old Forge resident Zachary Curtin.

Organizers credit Montage Mountain with helping them raise hundreds of thousands of dollars toward the cause.
