This comes after Scranton previously announced a Code Blue will be in effect for Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday, The City of Scranton announced the Code Blue shelter at Weston Field would be opening its doors.

A Code Blue is issued when temperatures drop below 20° and is how officials communicate to residents when frigid temperatures will impact the City of Scranton.

The measure is also a way to warn everyone of those freezing temperatures, especially those most vulnerable to the cold, such as the homeless or elderly.
