Elm Street Bridge in Scranton closed until summer 2026

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Starting Monday, February 3, the Elm Street Bridge in Scranton will be closed until the summer of 2026.

The bridge connects West Scranton and South Scranton and will have about a mile-long detour via South Washington Avenue, Hickory Street, Broadway Street, and Fourth Avenue.

According to the City of Scranton, while the bridge is being replaced a temporary pedestrian bridge will maintain some access between West and South Scranton.

According to PennDOT, the Elm Street Bridge replacement is one of four bridge replacements that comprise the Scranton Local Bridge Project.
