Students learn how to fly plane with cockpit simulator

(WBRE/WYOU) — Students in the Wallenpaupack School District have the unique opportunity to learn about flying a plane.

The Wallenpaupack Aeronautical Science and Aviation program is the only one in the Commonwealth.

Now, the program has a Boeing 737 Cockpit Simulator.

What do you do if your car is sliding on ice?

The simulator did not cost the school anything, as it was donated by an airline industry.

"The goal is to get kids introduced to an environment this complex so when they go to the airlines they don't wash out from just being overwhelmed with the sheer amount of switches and buttons and panels and everything. So we got this on donation December and now we're assembling it and hope to have it done by June," Junior and Vice President of the Wallenpaupack Aeronautical Science and Aviation Program Joseph Pettinato said.

This program will help lead them to potential careers in the air industry, including professional pilots and air traffic.
