PA State Representative's office firebombed

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are investigating the firebombing of a state representative's office in Luzerne County.

A suspect was caught on security camera video around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night lighting what police are describing as a Molotov cocktail-like device and throwing it at the front of the office of PA State Representative Alec Ryncavage, (R) PA 119th District, on North Walnut Street.

Ryncavage told 28/22 News when they showed up to the office Thursday morning they found shattered beer bottles, along with some kind of liquid covering the entrance door. It wasn't until the checked the security video that they realized what happened.

There are no reported injuries at this time.

We start with a developing story in Luzerne County. The firebombing of a state lawmaker's office.

That firebombing was caught on camera.

The attack happened at the offices of State Representative Alec Ryncavage (R) in Nanticoke.

It appears that whatever was lit and thrown at Ryncavage's offices either did not burn or burned out quickly. Police want to hear from you if recognize the culprit in the video.

The firebombing took pace at around 11:30 Wednesday night. The man lights two objects and throws them at the front of the offices of State Representative Alec Ryncavage' s offices. Ryncavage says he and his staff did not know what happened until they saw this security video.

"We saw shattered beer bottles, a dewy like film all over the building. Upon first impression that somebody in the middle of the night may have been drinking and threw bottles at the building," explained Rep. Alec Ryncavage, (R), PA 119th district.

Ryncavage says security has been stepped up at his office and police have increased patrols in this area. He says he has no idea why this attack took place.

"We should not see any type of violence in politics. Our office is open Monday through Friday. I'm happy to meet with a constituents. If somebody has an issue, I think he could come to me, talk with me, versus choosing violence to light up people's businesses, people's property and put people at risk," voiced Ryncavage.

People who came to his office for help with state related issues were stunned by what happened here.

"I think it's appalling. It's a shame that everything is going backward instead of forward," stated Joanne Tushiaski, Nanticoke.

"When I heard that, oh my goodness so close too close to home. People are crazy these days," added Shirley Pierantoni, Alden.
