Fire damages old motel in Lackawanna County

MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A fire damaged an old motel behind Terry's Diner on Thursday night.

According to Greenwood Fire Department Chief Molinaro, crews responded to a reported structure fire on the 4100 block of Birney Avenue just before 9:00 p.m.

Officials say there were no injuries on-scene.

Chie Molinaro says the fire was contained within minutes, and that the old motel was occupied by an employee of the restaurant.

Officials say the building is salvageable, but is described as a Collyer's Mansion, which is a term to describe a home that is filled with clutter and is deemed unsafe.

Crews from both Lackawanna and Luzerne County responded to the scene.

Greenwood Fire Department in Moosic headed the response on-scene.

It is unknown at this time what caused the fire, but a PSP Fire Marshal will be investigating the fire Friday afternoon
