SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Area bakeries are busy preparing Fat Tuesday treats today as many look to indulge before the Lenten season begins.
It's a sea of paczik inside Minooka Pastry Shop, with dozens of trays filling the back wall all because it's Fat Tuesday. And one rich donut is the star of the show.
The pastry shop estimates they’ll sell 600 dozen paczkis.
Tons of ingredients and elbow grease go into the dough, cutting and weighing it perfectly and then filling it with different flavors.
It's not just paczik people are looking for but also king cake.
Motorcycles can now be inspected year-round
“King cake is a cinnamon and sugar bread so we roll out our bread and it’s almost like a cinnamon bun dough,” says Bob Zakreski.
The two staples of the indulgent day are what keep a line of customers at the door, looking to continue their family traditions thanks to the local shop.
“Grandparents to grandchildren, you know three generations at least, we’ve seen come through the door,” says Zakreski.
Minooka Pastry Shop will be cranking out pacziks and king cakes until they close Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
