PA State Trooper charged with intimidation of witness

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Pennsylvania State Trooper has been charged with intimidation of a witness and stalking amid a child abuse investigation.

According to an investigation conducted by the Office of Attorney General and Pennsylvania State Police, Christopher S. Young, 34, allegedly repeatedly called and text-messaged a potential witness in an attempt to persuade them to cooperate in a child abuse investigation.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, on February 24, Young was armed with a gun and knife in a wooded area behind the witness' house in Schuylkill County.

"These charges outline disturbing and deliberate attempts to influence witness cooperation in a very serious police matter," Attorney General Dave Sunday said. "As a sworn officer with an oath to protect the community, the defendant’s alleged behavior will not be tolerated."

According to state police, Young has been suspended without pay.

The child abuse investigation is ongoing.

Young has been charged with intimidation of a witness, stalking, and loitering or prowling at night. Young was arraigned and denied bail.
