Text scam impersonates church pastor

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Wyoming Area Regional Police say they are investigating a scam where someone is impersonating a church pastor.

Police say people are receiving text messages saying they are "Pastor Sempa" from Corpus Christi Parish. The messages request donations of gift cards and cash to help families in need.

These messages are a scam. Police say do not respond to the messages and that Corpus Christi Parish does not solicit donations via text message.

Wyoming Area Regional Police say if you have received a similar text message or have fallen victim to the scam to contact them at 570-613-8065 or by calling 911 directly.
