Two arrested after multiple shots fired

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police arrested two men after they say their gunshot detector alerted them to multiple shots fired in Hazleton.

On March 7, around 2:40 p.m., officers said they received notification from the Flock/Raven system of multiple gunshots on 17th and Grant Streets.

While responding, police stated they saw a black BMW fleeing the area, and they tried to pull the car over. The driver tried to flee, leading to a chase with police, but they eventually stopped on 12th Street and Hanover Court.

Inside the car were four people. Investigators identified the driver as Maiqui Montilla Diaz, 21, the front passenger as Francisco Montilla, 27, and two other passengers were not identified.

Man charged with shots fired leading to stand-off

While investigating, officers said they saw a Glock handgun on the driver seat, and a search warrant was executed leading to the discovery of another Glock handgun in the vehicle.

Police stated they searched the scene on 17th Street and Hanover Court and found spent shell casings, two parked vehicles, and two residences all impacted by gunshots.

Montilla Diaz and Montilla have been charged with propulsion of missiles and possessing a firearm without a license.

The two unable post bail and remain lodged in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
