Home ruled a total loss after Sunday morning fire

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— An early morning fire destroyed a home in Lackawanna County with heavy winds making it difficult on first responders.

According to Lackawanna County Communications Center, crews responded to the 2100 block of Laurel Hill Road just after 3:00 a.m. for a reported structure fire.

When crews arrived on-scene, Chief LaCoe, of the Newton Ransom Volunteer Fire Company, stated that the house was fully involved with fire and smoke pouring out the windows and roof of the two-story home.

LaCoe said that the wind spread the fire rapidly throughout the house, and crews from Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming counties were called in due to lack of water supply.

Garage ruled a total loss after fire

A Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)releases states that the rapid spreading of the fire caused it to collapse on itself.

Officials say that the home was unoccupied, but a family was getting ready to move into the home so there were no injuries.

The home has been ruled a total loss, according to Chief LaCoe.

A fire marshal from PSP Dunmore said due to extensive damage, the cause of the fire could not be determined, but an investigation is ongoing
