Neighbors react after Plains Township shooting

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Multiple gunshots can be heard on surveillance video 28/22 News obtained from a viewer. Neighbors say they woke up to the noise and a heavy police presence early Monday morning in Plains Township.

28/22 News is still waiting to hear from police, but neighbors in the area say the police activity on the street is surprising because the area is usually fairly peaceful.

"It was around 4:00 in the morning, a little after 4:00. I heard loud banging: Bang, bang, bang, bang," a neighbor told 28/22 News.

The sound of shots fired can be heard in surveillance video captured near Abbott and Stocker streets in Plains Township at around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.

One neighbor 28/22 News spoke with also recalls seeing a vehicle crash near her home.

"When I looked out, I had seen a car crashed into a telephone pole," said neighbor Kendra Javick.

Javick then called 911. This sparked a heavy police presence, with investigators placing evidence markers in the area.

"This morning everything was blocked off on our block here, and just cops and fire trucks," Javick said.

This all took place just down the road from the Leo E. Solomon-Plains Middle School.

Neighbors 28/22 News spoke with say it's unusual to see so many police on their block because the area is usually calm.

"I've lived here for about eight years, and we've never had anything like that happen," Javick continued.

"They blocked everything off, but it was pretty scary because we live in a neighborhood that's very quiet," a neighbor said.

28/22 News is still waiting to learn more information from the police and will bring you the latest updates as they become available.
