Borough maintenance garage damaged after fire

LANSFORD, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Timing and quick work by the volunteer fire department is being credited for saving a building from fire.

On Tuesday, the head of the Lansford Department of Public Works Department told 28/22 News it could have been a lot worse.

The fire sparked around 2:45 p.m. just before the crews were to clock out at 3:00 p.m.

Two trucks were lost in the fire, but workers quickly moved out other equipment, and fire crews spared the building.

"Someone said we smell smoke, we look, two of my borough workers grabbed fire extinguishers we all yelled call the fire company. We got four trucks out of here, nobody got hurt. Thank God for our volunteer fire company they did a great job," Head of Lansford Public Works Joseph Butrie explained.

Work crews say the street sweeper sparked a fire at the garage and fire crews will determine the official cause of the fire.
