College students rolling up sleeves for community garden

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Students at a local college are rolling up their sleeves to create a community garden on campus.

It's all part of an agricultural enrichment project outside of the Dawson Building at Penn State Scranton.

The Garden Club and Student Government Association teamed up for the initiative hoping to provide a green space for the community.

With help from local donations, students hope to grow a variety of plants while promoting sustainability on campus.

"We've been building it for about three days now, four days, and now we're almost done with it. We're gonna start vegetables indoors, under grow lights, and then we're gonna transplant them out in May," Gardening Club President Connor DelRosso

The project kicked off today to commemorate the arrival of spring tomorrow.

Students are hoping the project contributes to the university's mission to build resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities.
