SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Today is the day the dreams of many medical students come true, it is match day!
Fourth year medical students around the country learn today where they will spend their post-graduate residency.
Students at the Geisinger College School of Medicine celebrated the day at the Scranton Cultural Center.
More than 100 students took part in the ceremony to see where they will spend the next four years.
"It was just really exciting and a lot of emotions all at once, my parents and my fiancé were with me and they got really emotional as well. So it was really cool to also see all my friends in the same room and everyone be really happy for each other," explained Kathleen Paterson, Scranton, matched at University of Pennsylvania.
"So it's their dream coming true, but it's also our dream coming true, because our dream is to make doctors for the region, and improve the health and wellbeing of the people, and that's happening," said Dr. Julie Byerly, President/Dean, Geisinger School of Medicine.
In addition to the match day celebration, Geisinger hospitals also learned who will arrive this summer to begin residencies across the system.
