State police investigating fatal hit and run on I-80

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Connecticut man is dead after a fatal hit and run took place on Interstate 80 Friday afternoon.

The release states that a 53-year-old man from Hartford, Connecticut is dead after a fatal hit and run crash occurred near mile marker 257 at around 2:30 p.m.

According to PennDOT, the closure was in the eastbound lanes between Exit 256: PA 93 - Nescopeck/Conyngham and Exit 260A: I-81 South - Harrisburg, but has since been reopened.

Troopers say that the man was outside his disabled commercial vehicle when he was struck by an incoming commercial vehicle.

Police investigate gunfire in Hazleton

The release states that the man succumbed after being Life Flighted to Geisinger Wyoming Valley.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

Pennsylvania State Police were assisted by Sugarloaf Township and Conyngham Borough Police Departments along with Sugarloaf Fire Department and Lehigh Valley EMS.

Pennsylvania State Police are in the process of investigating the fatal hit and run.
