UNION COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Union County reported they found ransomware on the County's computer network that could have given cyber criminals access to Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers.
On March 13, the County detected the ransomware. After an investigation with a third-party cybersecurity consultant, they found data including personally identifiable information was accessed.

The county says the investigation is ongoing, but believes the data may contain Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers.
Union County has taken multiple steps to further defend its network's safety and asks members of the community to take preventative measures to help detect and mitigate misuse of your information.
The county says that includes remaining vigilant for incidents of fraud and identity theft by regularly reviewing your account statements and free credit reports for any unauthorized or suspicious activity.
