WILKES-BARRE TWP. LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former Schuylkill County police officer is accused of getting caught impersonating an officer to police.
Wilkes-Barre Township Police say they pulled over 31-year-old Angel Abreu-Nunez after they saw his truck had a fraudulent/counterfeit Pennsylvania Temporary License Plate.
During the stop, police said Abreu-Nunez identified himself as an off-duty officer and provided a Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission identification card for a police department in Schuylkill County.
Several packets of meth seized from apartment, woman arrested
Police called the Schuylkill County police department and verified that Abreu-Nunez hadn't worked for the department in about a year.
Abreu-Nunez was taken into custody, and another police ID was found along with a badge of another police department in Schuylkill County where he was also no longer employed, police said.
Officers say a search of Abreu-Nunez's vehicle found more fraudulent/counterfeit Pennsylvania Temporary license plates and police believe he was creating them himself.
Officers claimed Abreu-Nunez could not name a police department he worked for. He was taken to Luzerne County Correctional Facility and charges are pending.
