Take the 'Trolley Through Time' on limited excursion

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Electric City Trolley Museum will offer a special "then and now" trolley excursion on the historic Laurel Line on Saturday, April 26.

The excursion will follow the intercity route of the Lackawanna and Wyoming Valley Railroad that once connected Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.

Motormen John Sheerin and Bob Young will host informative journeys along the interurban rail line at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

Tickets for the excursions are $15 and can be purchased by calling 570-963-6590. Tickets will not be sold on the trolley car.

The ride will share historical images of scenes along the line and visit "Little Virginia", the former trolley station in Minooka.

“I have always had a love for the Railway and especially the Laurel Line system. The Trolley excursion brings joy and knowledge of local history,” said Sheerin, a third-generation conductor, member of the Electric City Trolley Museum Association board of directors, and chairman of the Car 505 Restoration Committee.

“We are ambassadors for Lackawanna County while sharing historical information,” added Young, a retired quality assurance engineer and charter member of the Lackawanna and Wyoming Rail Historical Society.

Part of the proceeds will benefit the Car 505 restoration project.
