WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is being charged after police say he hit a pedestrian near Sheetz and left the scene.
According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, officers were called to Sheetz on March 31, around 2:50 a.m., for a reported hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.
Police said the pedestrian informed them that he was leaving Sheetz when he was struck by a car from behind and knocked to the ground. The vehicle then fled the scene without stopping.
Investigators stated surveillance video from Sheetz showed a car with a racing stripe traveling on Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard when the man was hit, and it was the only vehicle that was driving in the area of Sheetz. On the scene, police say they found a side-view mirror in the area where the victim was hit.

After the victim was hit, officers said they were called to the area of Blackman and Hazle Street for a man lying on the ground next to a car that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, and it was missing a side mirror.
Police say the driver, William Boyle, 58, of Wilkes-Barre, had an odor of alcohol, and he refused to submit to a breath test.
Boyle is charged with aggravated assault, accidents involving personal injury, and failure to notify police of an accident. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a $10,000 bail.
