SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Across the commonwealth, many courthouses are driving home the importance of preventing abuse, including here at home.
The Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) of northeastern Pennsylvania hosted its annual Pinwheels for Prevention event at Courthouse Square in Downtown Scranton.
The eye-catching display serves as a very solemn reminder that each pinwheel planted on the lawn at the Lackawanna County Courthouse represents a child who has been abused.

"Child abuse is a community problem, unfortunately, and so we think it takes a community response. So it's everything from the judicial level, the prosecutor level, law enforcement, caseworkers, families, anyone that a child is willing to speak, to speak up to, they have a duty and responsibility to respond," said CAC of NEPA Executive Director Meghan Lennox Gagorik.
In all, 555 pinwheels are on display just in Lackawanna County.
