Why is my water brown? Crews flushing hydrants to reduce discolored water

(WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania American Water has stated repairs are underway to alleviate discolored water impacting areas across northeastern Pennsylvania on Wednesday.

Pennsylvania American Water stated they are aware of the issue of discolored water in the following areas:

Duryea

Pittston

West Pittston

Exeter

Wyoming

Swoyersville

Moosic

Authorities say this is an aesthetic issue and does not impact water quality.

PA American Water has replaced a pipe in a transmission line that is causing the issue. Crews are flushing hydrants in the area to help alleviate.

"We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue," officials with PA American Water stated.

Landlords are advised to inform tenants so they are aware of this impact on their water service. American Water asks that you not approach crews while they work.
