Four people, two cats displaced after early morning fire

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)—Three buildings were damaged with one being a total loss after a Sunday morning fire in Kingston.

According to Chief Frank Guido of the Kingston/ Forty-Fort Fire Department, the fire on the 200 block of Zerby Avenue was spotted by Kingston Police patrol just after 1:00 a.m.

Chief Guido states that upon arrival, crews found flames shooting out the front of the home.

Officials say that the fire began a 223 Zerby Avenue, which has been ruled a total loss, but spread to 225 and 219 Zerby Avenue as well.

225 sustained moderate damage, while 219 only had damage to the siding, according to Chief Guido.

First responders state that one woman was transported from an upstairs apartment at 223 Zerby Avenue for smoke inhalation.

Four people and two cats were displaced in total from 223 and 225 Zerby Avenue, and the Red Cross is assisting them with temporary housing Chief Guido added.

Guido states that the fire was accidental, but the cause is still under investigation.

Units from Kingston/Forty Fort, Wilkes Barre City, Hanover Township, Edwardsville, and Medic 10 responded.
