Tickets for Mega Millions sees price increase

(WBRE/WYOU) — The Mega Millions ticket is going to cost you a little more the next time you play the big game.

Instead of $2, tickets will now cost $5 a piece.

The last time ticket prices went up was eight years ago when they increased from $1 to $2.

Game officials say the change means bigger prizes, better odds, and faster-growing jackpots.

The minimum payout will be $10 instead of $2 as it is now.

28/22 News visited Stroud Smoke Shop in Monroe County to see what people thought about the price increase.

"Everything else is going up in price, so it doesn't surprise me. But I'm a little leery about you know whether it's gonna help win more? I don't know," Sciota resident Rosemary Mistkowski said.

"Well, I don't play it that much unless we get together at work and do it as a group. I think $5 is quite steep," said Frank Scarfo from Stroudsburg.

Even with the changes, your chances of winning the big jackpot are one in 290,000,000.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 p.m.

Tuesday's drawings will be the first under the price hike.
