LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— One of the suspects in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Dayveon Creel is being charged after allegedly forging his name on a check.
According to the complaint, 21-year-old Carnel Shelborne Jr., of Nescopeck, is being charged with a felony account of fraud.
One of two men convicted in Sunbury shooting
The complaint states that a local uniform and supply shop issued a check worth over $49,000 to Ecolab Inc. back in September.
Officials say the check was then unknowingly diverted from its destination, and the name "Carnel Dion Shelborne" was forged onto the check.
Police say the check was then deposited on October 2 by a mobile depositing app.
It is unknown if Shelborne gave his account information to an accomplice to deposit the check or did that on his own.
Shelborne is awaiting a preliminary hearing date in this case.
