Man in custody, facing charges after Scranton shooting

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges after a reported shooting in Scranton.

The Scranton Police Department says on March 23, they responded to a reported shooting on the 100 block of West Market Street outside of the Solstice Bar at about 2:00 a.m.

Officers say when they arrived on scene, they found multiple spent casings and several vehicles damaged by bullets.

Police say in their investigation, they determined the shooter fled the scene.

On Monday, the Scranton Police Department announced the arrest of 31-year-old Khalid Jamiar Jones at his home on the 1200 block of Washburn Street in Scranton for the alleged shooting.

Police say Jones was taken into custody without incident by the Scranton Police Department, agents with the Scranton US Marshals Office, and Lackawanna County detectives.

When searching the residence, authorities say they found an "abundance of evidence," including two "ghost guns," which are described by police as handguns with no serial numbers or identifying markings and ammunition.

Jones is facing multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Simple Assault, and other related charges.

Court documents say Jones is awaiting a preliminary hearing, and police say additional firearms charges for the ghost guns are forthcoming.
