WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters were on the scene in Luzerne County after what officials say was an excavator in a cellar Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department was called shortly after 1:15 p.m. to the intersection of George Avenue and Trethaway Street in the Parsons Section of Wilkes-Barre for a reported incident involving an excavator.
Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney told 28/22 News the fire department was called to after an excavator went into the cellar and "tipped to the left."
Chief Delaney said the operator of the excavator exited the construction vehicle and that no one was injured in the incident.
Volunteer fire company seeking much-needed funding
According to Chief Delaney, there are multiple apartments attached to the building that was set to come down.
Crews evacuated residents while they ensured that there were no gas lines or electrical lines damaged in the incident, Chief Delaney explained.
After crews determined there was no danger to the nearby residences, Chief Delaney said tenants were allowed back into their homes.
