It's Opening Night for one local baseball league

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Spring is here and that means the return of little league baseball.

In Plains Township, the start of the season isn't just about playing ball, it's a cherished community tradition.

Families, friends, and neighbors lined the streets for a parade to celebrate Opening Day.

"I think Opening Night is one of our favorite nights of the year, you know it brings everybody together and gets the young kids looking forward to what it could be when they get older. It gives the older kids their fanfare to move onto the next phase of their baseball career and it's a really nice way to start off the season," explained parent Caitlyn Hollingshead.

"I think parades are a fun start because it gets everyone hyped and excited and it makes everyone get excited," expressed Giuliana Brown of Wilkes-Barre.

"Parents are all involved there's tons of parents here, and it's getting out and doing these events like this. We're doing an equipment drive to try to help parents offset some of the costs will go to Railriders game. It's about doing all types of stuff with the public. It's more than just competing and winning or losing. It's all to me about building in a better experience for the kids," stated Plains Township Softball Manager Shane Farrell.

"I play first base it's fun to be able to get an out and most outs are at first base so I feel like it's like it's like a lot of pressure but it's also really fun at the same time," said one Plains Township softball player.

The league is looking for donations of equipment for this upcoming season.
