9 displaced after Taylor house fire

TAYLOR, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Firefighters, the fire marshal, and the Red Cross were called to a house fire Tuesday evening in Lackawanna County.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., Authorities say the Taylor Fire Department was called to the unit block of Kennedy Boulevard for a reported residential structure fire.

Wes Jones, Chief of the Taylor Borough Fire Department, told 28/22 News they were called to the scene for what was initially reported as a couch fire.

When crews arrived on scene, Chief Jones says they found a heavy working fire, quickly got it under control, and the fire is now out.

Crews from Old Forge, the Greenwood Hose Company, and Duryea, Luzerne County, were also called to the scene, according to authorities.

28/22 News could also observe the Red Cross providing aid.

Chief Jones also says a total of nine people were displaced because of the fire in the double-block residence.

Four adults were displaced from one block of the house, while four adults and one child were displaced from the other block, according to Chief Jones.

While there are no reported injuries, Chief Jones says a cat could not be located and is presumed lost.
