Exterior renovations of Scranton City Hall finished

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Electric City skyline is back in tip-top shape. Exterior renovations are complete at Scranton City Hall.

Officials cut off the remaining caution tape this morning to unveil the $4,800,000 project.

Scaffolding covered the municipal building for the last 14 months as construction and restoration experts worked on the facade and roof.

The three-story historic building was constructed in 1888, and the last major renovation project took place in 1980.

"Being able to preserve this and then now we'll turn to looking to make sure that we have a potentially additional space that's more accessible, easier for the public to get in and out of, in addition to this historic building that iconic part of our skyline here in Scranton," Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti stated.

Repairs to stained-glass windows from the council chambers and the governor's room are still ongoing.

Additional updates to the city hall tower and the letters in front of City Hall are also still underway.
