JIM THORPE, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — As crews work to contain the Carbon County wildfire, officials say you might see more smoke and burns on Tuesday as crews use a firefighting method called "back burns".
The Carbon County Emergency Management Agency says crews will work throughout the next few days and nights to fully contain the fire.
As part of their efforts, they will utilize a technique known as "back burns", in which a smaller fire is ignited to slow down and/or stop the approaching wildfire, ensuring proper extinguishment.

According to the agency, this means more smoke and flames will be visible, but that most of the smoke and flames will be controlled and ignited by the Bureau of Forestry.
If you are interested in donating to the firefighters, the Jim Thorpe Borough Police Department says they are looking for non-perishable goods. They can be dropped off at the Diligent Fire Station located on Center Avenue in Jim Thorpe.
