Two arrested during DUI checkpoints

KINGSTON TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police in Luzerne County arrested two people on various charges during a DUI checkpoint placed during the holiday weekend.

During the Easter Weekend, Kingston Township Police Department said they conducted a DUI enforcement patrol to promote safety and deter impaired driving within the township.

Officers say they pulled over a total of 18 vehicles from Friday night through Saturday morning. Investigators stated they made two arrests during the enforcement.

Police said a driver was arrested after officers saw signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety testing. The individual was charged with driving under the influence.

During a separate traffic stop, officers said they discovered cocaine and marijuana in a vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substances.

The stops also resulted in numerous citations and warnings for traffic violations.
