President Barry Sones says he started the annual event after being hospitalized following a bad accident 16 years ago, where he met many struggling veterans.

“Some of them were afraid they were going to lose their house from medical bills and everything, and I’ve been able to recover very well from the accident that I was in, and this is just my way to pay it back.”

Now, after 12 years of the fundraiser, they’ve raised over $180 thousand for the non-profit.

With a game dinner at Hughesville Fire Department’s social hall Saturday, and a 3d archery shoot Sunday. People can learn more about the sport and its growing club.

“It’s more bonding, bonding with friends and family, and the club in itself is great because it’s truly like a family, and you meet so many new people.”

Club members Fiona and Emma Madara say they want to see younger generations and more women get involved with archery.

“It’s very intimidating when you see all of these men, but then when you go out and you’re one of the few women shooting, you feel strong and proud of yourself.”

Hoping to encourage and motivate others looking for a new but challenging hobby.

“I would say, ‘hey, if it’s your goal, I’d go for it.’ Believe in yourself, have confidence in yourself.”

The Bloomsburg Archery Club’s event kicks off at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. For more details on how you can take part, you can head to their website.
